Above Ground Pools, How are they Covered?

With warmer weather on the way, I am often asked how above ground pools are covered. I would check your home insurance policy or call your agent regarding each individual situation.

Above ground pools are considered personal property. If the policy is an ISO HO-3 and has all risk coverage on personal property, the answer would be YES.

However, without all risk coverage, there would be no coverage since an HO-3 is named peril. For example, Peril #11 Weight of Snow or Sleet …. which causes damage to property contained in a building. Since the pool is outside and not in a building, there  is no coverage.

The exclusions on the policy would have to be checked if it does have all risk coverage. The company may or may not use the ISO endorsement.
